November 10, 12:30 Willem Jan de Hek is an architect and urban planner, who over the years became more and more fascinated with religious architecture. He will speak on the topic of ‘Contextualism and Church Architecture’. How do urban fabric, historical aspects and sociocultural context influence the design of a church? And what is the essence of a church building? His argument will be illustrated by three projects from his own portfolio: a mixed-use religious complex in Haarlem, a conceptual design for the first protestant church in Bhutan and the interior transformation of an early 20th century church in Amsterdam. Willem Jan currently works for CITIC Capital Real Estate Group. He holds his Architecture degree from Delft University of Technology and is a part-time student in Theology at the Protestant Theological University in the Netherlands. |
