Thanks to Jacklien, parents and teachers who every year bring us such joy through allowing our children to lead us in worship. Last week the Union Church Choir gave us a great gift in their cantata. Thank you Forrest and choir for focusing our attention on Jesus as we begin this wonderful season of Advent. Speaking of music that touches our lives, the Christmas carol "Silent Night" is two-hundred years old this Christmas. This beloved song will feature prominently in our Christmas Eve services. My favourite is the la st verse, with which I shall close: "Son of God, love's pure light; Radiant beams from thy holy face With the dawn of redeeming grace Jesus, Lord at thy birth..." To kick off our 2019 Church Theme "The Father's Heart, Our First Love", we are delighted to announce a church-wide study entitled “The Good and Beautiful God”. “We all have ideas we tell ourselves about God and how he works in our lives. Some are true and some are not. In The Good and Beautiful God, we test our ideas to see if they match up with what Jesus himself reveals a bout God. Together we will discover the narratives that Jesus lived by – to know the Lord He knew and the kingdom He proclaimed – and to practice spiritual exercises that will help us grow in the knowledge of Our Good and Beautiful God.” We invite the entire Union Church family to participate in this study through small groups, Wednesday Recharge, or by following along through independent study. This month the Joint Leaders begin the search process for a new senior pastor. In the interim, the Joint Leaders have agreed that Pastor Michele Bl and will take on the role of acting Senior Pastor until such time that a new senior pastor is appointed. Pastor Michele has stepped into this role twice before and we have every confidence in her leadership. This year our Sunday School children will be performing the Nativity with the theme "BETHLEHEM NEWSFLASH”. Our children will be sharing this wonderful news of the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ for all to hear. Small GroupsNew to Union? Been here awhile but haven't connected yet? Small groups are where we dig into the nitty-gritty of following Jesus, and connect with each other. Studying the Bible, reading topical books, praying, laughing and eating together - it's good! We know there are a lot of you wanting to connect or looking for the right group, and we will be laun ching new groups in 2019! What a great way to start off the new year! YouthRESOUND – Friday, 7 December
RESOUND is a fantastic night where Youth Groups from around Hong Kong c ome togeth er for a night of worship and fellowship together in Jesus Christ! Union Youth is excited to be a part of this year’s RESOUND meeting, which will take place at the Vine Church nearby. Juniors and Seniors will meet first at Union at 6:00PM and then return at 9:00PM. Sunday Youth Group – Sunday, 9 December Youth can attend at either 9:45AM or 11:15AM. Juniors (11-13) and Seniors (14-18) will meet in Indigo Hotel 29/F, and seniors will head out after prayer to have a biblical discussion. MissionLocal mission in Tung Chung
We are partnering with a local church in Tung Chung to run a weekly English program on Saturday mornings in Nov & Dec. The students will be Primary 2-3 children from Ying Tung Estate - a new public estate in Tung Chung. We will be teaching the children English through songs, Bible stories and fun activities.
